On a mission to connect science with the community, senior undergraduate research assistant Bryant Polanco recently gave al lecture to residents at The Village of River Oaks, a local senior living facility from the Aspenwood Company. His talk, “How Our Brain Changes: Normal Aging vs. Dementia,” explored the differences between typical cognitive aging and the signs of neurodegenerative conditions like dementia.
Bryant guided residents through the science of brain health, discussing the natural cognitive shifts that come with aging and how they differ from conditions like Alzheimer’s. His presentation sparked conversations and thoughtful questions from the residents about memory, lifestyle factors, and ongoing research in the field.
This event reflects our lab’s commitment to community outreach and education, ensuring that scientific knowledge is accessible to all. We’re proud of Bryant for using his expertise to empower and inform, and we look forward to more opportunities to bring research beyond the lab and into the community!
